Big Love in Little Italy ~ Krista and Dan’s (& Riker) Sneak Peek
Posted on Oct 29, 2011 at 5:11 pm by Liz · 1 CommentThis morning I spend a few hours walking around Little Italy and Westboro with Krista and Dan. These two were so much fun and braved the chilly morning with laughter and a few tears (on account of the cold making Krista’s eyes water like crazy).
These two lovebirds are getting married in Newfoundland next summer, but wanted some engagement portraits in the city that they now live in, and love.
We began in Little Italy, walking along Preston Street, taking in the morning sun and posing in front of cute restaurant after cute restaurant.
And in front of blue doors…

An aforementioned cute restaurant (don’t ask me which one though because I can’t remember! haha)

I just love this mural underneath the bridge and I asked Krista and Dan to pose like the silhouettes around them.

I also spent some time creeping in bushes and looking a bit like a stalker – I’m pretty sure that’s what they are laughing about here on the right.

We then headed to their apartment to pick up their fur-kid, Riker, the pug. This guy’s love of the camera was only to be outdone by his love for treats.
This is his, “Please Liz, may I have some more?” face.

Look I’m sitting, can I have the treat?

“Hey guys, whatcha doin’? I thought we were going for a walk here!” – Riker the pug.

Have a wonderful day,
Liz – Contact Me, I would love to speak with you!

Happy Canada Day from Gus the Vizsla
Posted on Jul 1, 2011 at 2:33 pm by Liz · No CommentsI got to spend this morning with the exuberant Gus. What a perfect Canada Day morning! I couldn’t think of a better way to spend it.
Gus has a big job – he is the official mascot for his human’s real estate business, The Guy With The Dog. On a personal note, they were our realtors when we bought our home four years ago and they are awesome. Seriously. And not just because of Gus.
Lots more of this guy soon, but for now, just one.

Have a wonderful day,

Wedding talk at Colourbomb!
Posted on Mar 4, 2011 at 9:30 am by Liz · 1 CommentLast night I attended the Colourbomb spring trunk show put on by Splendid Events and hosted by Hush Clothing Boutique. There were so many amazing and talented women in the house that I, with some encouragement and aid from the amazing Amna Hakim, chatted with them about their work and about weddings…on camera!
Amy from Splendid Events
First up was the woman behind the event, Amy from Splendid Events. Amy and I chatted about what she predicts the trends will be for this year for jewellery and colours.

Amy predicts that big, chunky jewellery will be in as well as the colour pink!
Sandy from Blush Beads
I got the chance to speak to Sandy from Blush Beads, who had her amazing jewellery featured at the Colourbomb event last night. She and I chatted about how she creates custom pieces for brides and how each piece is made by hand and is totally unique.
Colourbomb with Sandy from Blush Beads from elizabeth&jane photography on Vimeo.
Sandy creates all of her wedding jewellery by hand and with much input from the bride. She finds out about everything to do with that wedding, and creates a custom and one of a kind piece just for that bride.
Jenny from Geek Sweets
There were lots of delicious sweets and treats there last night (I may have indulged a bit myself!) and one of the sweetmakers is Jenny from Geek Sweets. She makes the most adorable, and delicious, mini cupcakes. She and I talked about how cupcakes are becoming a new trend and why they are quite different from a traditional wedding cake.

Jenny has cupcake flavours you could only dream about. She notes that having cupcakes in different flavours allows for all of your guests to find something they like.
Melody, local beauty expert, from Melody and Jezebel
Melody, a local beauty expert in Ottawa, is the amazing talent behind Melody and Jezebel. She does makeup for many events and photo shoots as well as TV and Special Events. She and I talked about why it is so important to hire a professional makeup artist for your wedding day.

Melody urges brides not to forget about how important it is to hire a professional makeup artist for your wedding. A professional makeup artist will change the face of your portraits. Brides deserve to look and feel their best on their wedding day!
Alison, from Hush Clothing Boutique
Alison owns the very stylish Hush Clothes Boutique in Westboro on Wellingon Street. The store is all about fashion and carries gently worn, high end, designer, shoes, handbags, and accessories for women. She and I talked about how guests can figure out what to wear to weddings.
Colourbomb with Alison from Hush Clothes Bouqitue from elizabeth&jane photography on Vimeo.
Alison suggests that wedding guests take their clothing queues from the wedding invitation. If the invitation is casual, then you can wear a shorter dress with some cute shoes but if the invitation is quite formal, you should stick to something like a floor length gown.
If you are attending a wedding this year and aren’t sure what to wear, stop by Hush Clothes Boutique and they will help you find the perfect outfit.
Liz (me!) from elizabeth&jane photography, signing off
I hope that you enjoyed my short interviews with the amazing women who were at Colourbomb last night.
I also want to give another HUGE thank you to Amna Hakim who was my publicist, cinemetographer, director and camera operator last night. You rocked it out and I thank you so much!! I could not have done these without you!!!

Behind the scenes: what this was recorded with
The evening was recorded on my brand new and super awesome Flip Mino HD. I was able to customize it through the online store and because I love dogs so much, I was able to incorporate my own two little fluffballs, Paddington and Corduroy.
The Flip Mino records in HD and is very small and lightweight. It’s perfect for carrying around in a purse and is very easy to use. Press the big red button to record the press it to stop. Simple!

Soul-mates: two halves of the same soul
Posted on Sep 11, 2010 at 6:04 pm by Liz · 2 CommentsI’ve been trying to write this post for about two weeks now, I’m not going to lie. Jenn and Tyler are awesome, and I was trying to come up with an uber clever and wordy way of saying it, but I couldn’t come up with anything other than awesome, because that’s what they are.
Our first wedding consultation back in February lasted almost two hours. I left feeling like I didn’t just spend some time with clients, but that I spent time with friends. The same thing happened when I met with Jenn the week before the wedding and we chatted for three hours!
Jenn and Tyler had an engagement session with me which we used to create a one of a kind wedding invitation. You might remember the session I blogged here. I even got a free burger from The Works from writing that post!
Their wedding day was perfect. It was a beautiful sunny day and there was so much love in the air. When I arrived at their house to capture Jenn getting ready with her bridesmaids, she was relaxed and the three were having a light lunch with more than perfect hair. As she got dressed, I could see that Jenn was excited, underneath all that calm energy, she was excited to marry her best friend in a few hours. Tyler waited at the church, getting everyone settled and ready for the ceremony.
The ceremony was held in the Church was the Christ Church Huntley, which holds a lot of meaning to Tyler’s family – it has been their family church for many years and they are very much involved in the parish. The ceremony was beautiful and everyone could barely hold back their emotions. Everything was so beautiful and the day was perfect.
And the car…oh the car!! Jenn had a family friend who loaned them the most beautiful car I’ve ever seen. A lavender vintage cadillac. It matched the colour scheme and provided a whole other level of cool. I actually squealed out loud when I first saw it!
The reception was catered by the wonderfully talented Epicuria and cannot deny that I ate a ton and enjoyed every single bite. The food was so good that I am going to save those photos for a post all by themselves.
Jenn and Tyler are awesome, and there really isn’t any other word. Anyone who meets them can tell that they are perfect for each other and are so in love. I know that they will be happy together forever.
I cleared off their kitchen shelves for the top shot and balancing those bouquets took some patience I tell you!

The beautiful bride.

The groom before the ceremony – a bit nervous, but very excited.

Getting married!

I love the light in this shot. It really shows how warm, sunny and beautiful their wedding day was.

Love the emotion in this shot!

One word: shoes. The ladies were so great and didn’t complain once as I had them walk all over the parking lots at the Arboretum!

One of my favourite groomsmen photos ever. I love the reflection in his glasses.

There is something about this photo that I just love. I don’t know why, but I do.

Check out the car…drool…

Love.

So pretty.

A definite favourite.

The reception was filled with so much love, and laughter!

The dancing at this wedding was great. I admit I busted a move on the dance floor as well!

I accidentally got myself in Tyler’s ring while shooting some details shots. I thought it was quite funny. I call it “Self Portrait in a Ring”

Jenn and Tyler, thank you for having me photograph your wedding and spend the day with you. You are the best. xoxo.

Posted on May 10, 2010 at 11:00 am by Liz · No CommentsBad Dog Mug Shots at Westfest 2010! I held this event in conjunction with Bark & Fitz last year and it did so well that people have been asking for it again this year. Sweet! This was such a fun idea and we had such a great time with it.
We got every human to write down why their dog was being “booked” and we came away with some really great and funny “sentences”. We will have a binder with the pictures from last year at Westfest for you to flip through.
A change is happening this year though – there will be ONE DAY ONLY to get your dog’s mug shot taken! Saturday June 12th from 10-6 and it’s first come, first served – so get there early!
The event is in support of BARK Rescue.
