Posted on Jan 29, 2011 at 10:00 am by Liz · No CommentsThe wedding book is the perfect way to remember your wedding. Kirsten and Shadi chose a beautiful 40 page, 12×12 Hardcover Photo Book and it was perfect.
I used colours from their wedding day to style all of their wedding products including their photo book, mini books, DVD Case and labels and Thank You Cards.

True Love Can Weather the Rain
Posted on Nov 25, 2010 at 6:28 pm by Liz · 6 CommentsWhere do I begin with Kirsten and Shadi. From the first time we met, it was like we had known each other for years.
Kirsten first contacted me by email from Calgary as she and Shadi were in the middle of moving back to Ottawa, after living in Calgary for several years. The first time we met was at their engagement session. We had a blast around downtown Ottawa and I knew we were meant to be when Kirsten suggested having our wedding prep meeting at The Works. Yumm!!
Kirsten and Shadi’s wedding day was beautiful. Everyone could feel the love in the air at Vincent Massey Park as Shadi watched, tears in his eyes (even if he denies it!!), as his beautiful bride walked down the leaf-strewn aisle. They held hands as their family and friends watched. Not even a sprinkling of rain could dampen their spirits.
One of my favourite moments of the day was the first kiss. As Kirsten and Shadi sealed their vows, the sun emerged and a gorgeous warm light streamed through. It was as close to magical as it gets, I think. It was also all I could do to not exclaim “yes, yes, YES!” behind my camera because I knew the photos were going to be stunning.
I just love photographing these two, and their bridal party was just the same. We hung out under some trees at Hog’s Back Park while the rain was a bit heavier and they relaxed and had a great time. I can’t say enough about how laid back Kirsten and Shadi were about the weather. All that mattered was they were together and no amount of rain could change that.
After the portraits, we headed to Eggspectations for a gorgeous reception and delicious dinner. Everyone had a great laugh at the shoe game and everyone celebrated Kirsten and Shadi together.
I had so much fun at this wedding and I must warn you, I had a terribly hard time narrowing photos down for this post. I’ll be honest, there are entirely TOO MANY, but I couldn’t help it. Some of these images are favourites I’ve ever taken.
Kirsten and Shadi put a lot of thought into the details of their wedding and it really showed.

Love this shot.

Shadi wore really awesome red Pumas and they looked so good with Kirsten’s red pumps.

Getting ready.

Shadi cannot deny that he got a bit emotional when there is a beautiful shot to prove it. You can just see the love in his eyes.

The aforementioned kiss shot. Love!

These shots are really special. Shadi’s grandmother could not attend the ceremony so right after, Kirsten, Shadi, Shadi’s mother and I went to visit her. She was so happy and kept saying how beautiful they looked. I will admit, I teared up. So sweet.

The beautiful ladies.

The dashing gentlemen.

Love these shots.

Kirsten was thirsty.

Love me some shoe shots!!

Beautiful.

I am totally in love with the light in these shots.

Now I never do this, but this shot is such a favourite that I made an exception and put a portrait oriented photo by itself.

Such beautiful colours.

I love this shot because you can see the drops of rain dancing around them. These two made rain look goooooood.

The reception was filled with fun and laughter.

Such beautiful emotion.

This was one wedding where the dance floor was rarely empty!

Kirsten and Shadi, it was so wonderful being your photographer on your wedding day! Thank you for choosing me to be a part of it.

In dreams and in love there are no impossibilities
Posted on Jul 18, 2010 at 2:15 pm by Liz · 7 CommentsI still remember the day that Katie told me that Mathieu had proposed. I was recently engaged myself and she and I had been talking about how she and Matt were thinking about getting married. She came to see me and didn’t even need to tell me – I immediately spotted her infectious grin and her beautiful engagement ring.
I’ve known Katie for about three years now and funnily enough our lives paralleled in some pretty big milestones throughout the time we’ve known each other. We both bought our first homes within weeks of each other and we also got engaged around the same time as well. When Katie purchased her first home, she was single and loving it. Purchasing that home forever changed her life. Living next door was a strapping young man who would come over and help her fix things around the house. He would find any excuse to come over and see her. If you haven’t guessed it by now, this was Mathieu. Eventually he would move out of his house and move next door in with Katie and on June 19th, 2010, they stood in front of each other and promised to love one another forever.
Katie and Matt’s wedding was beautiful. It was one of the hottest days in June and it thunderstormed ALL morning. Nothing could get Katie’s spirits down though and she really did have nothing to worry about because by the time we came to take photos outside, it had completely cleared up. They got the best of both worlds; rain for luck, and sunny for their photos!
These two have such love for each other and it is so evident to everyone who knows them. They recently bought a farm and their honeymoon was spent installing electric fences and lots and LOTS of planting. Both are very in tune with the environment and you can see that even in their wedding colours: green!
Thank you Katie and Mathieu for letting me photograph your love, and your day. I hope you love your photos as much as I do!

My peace of mind was courtesy of my awesome bridesmaids & my mom, Day of event co-ordinator, Linda, and the blog apracticalwedding.com where I’ve been reading for over a year about how I should let all the details go on the day of the wedding and just be in the moment. Apparently it worked!

Happiness Walks on Busy Feet
Posted on Jun 1, 2010 at 11:30 am by Liz · No CommentsI am happiest when I am busy, hence the blog title of this post. As the weather gets warmer (recently: a lot warmer!!) and as our wedding season kicks into high gear, our blogging will become a little less frequent. We are busy and I am loving it!
Don’t worry, we will still be blogging all of our sessions, but they may come at you all at once instead of nicely spaced apart. I have quite a few sessions that need to be blogged so those will be going live in the next week or so, including a funtastic shoot I did with Jane a few weeks ago!
Since posts are just plain boring without a photo, here is one from a wedding reception I photographed last weekend. Disclaimer: objects in photo may appear larger than actual size.

A bee is never as busy as it seems; it’s just that it can’t buzz any slower.
Have a wonderful day,

Finding the Right Jeweller for your Wedding
Posted on Jan 8, 2010 at 10:00 am by Liz · 1 CommentI was speaking to a friend last night who relayed her nightmarish story about her great ring debacle. She has been married now since June and still doesn’t have her rings. Her then-boyfriend/now-husband wanted something unique and very special for the love of his life and contacted a jeweller to make a custom engagement ring that he helped design. It was beautiful, it was perfect and she said “Yes!” Fast forward a year and a half later to a week before the wedding and lo and behold, the bride still doesn’t have her wedding band and they have now been through two jewellers. The nightmare continued after the wedding. Although they were able to get a wedding band made for them in time for the wedding, it wasn’t perfect and had many flaws. So off to a third jeweller who then proceeded to damage the original engagement ring, leaving the newlyweds out of much money and quite distraught. They have since been to two more jewellers, the engagement ring and wedding band have been re-made about 5 or 6 times and they are hoping against all hope to pick up the final rings this week.
I have never heard of such a nightmare! We had quite the opposite experience at our jeweller, Goldform. We originally went to them to get my engagement ring resized. The store Thomas got the engagement ring from didn’t do ring sizing so I asked friends and was recommended to Goldform – a little jewellery store in Westboro. We brought my engagement ring in and they re-sized it in less than a week! We were so impressed that we began speaking to them about doing our unique, custom made wedding bands. We wanted something very specific and they were able to accommodate every need we had. They worked with us every step of the way and we went in several times to oversee the progress. The jewellers really knew their stuff and made suggestions that would not only fit our budget, but look fantastic.
I couldn’t have been happier with our experience with Goldform and I was so saddened to hear about my friends journey.

If you are looking for a trustworthy and reputable jeweller in Ottawa, please take a moment to visit Goldform – you will not be disappointed!
