A Love That Can Move Mammoths…I mean Mountains
Posted on Dec 6, 2010 at 3:30 pm by Liz · 3 CommentsI bet you’re wondering about the title and thinking “mammoths?!? is this woman crazy?”. The answer is yes, but that’s a whole other story haha. But I promise you, there indeed are mammoths in this post, pinky swear.
Amber and Darrel are two of the sweetest people you will ever meet – and their engagement story is right out of a movie…almost literally! Amber’s favourite movie is Breakfast at Tiffany’s and it will come as no surprise that Tiffany had everything to do with their engagement.
The two took a very romantic trip to New York City and went together to the Tiffany flagship store, the same one that is so prominently featured in the film, and together they picked out the perfect engagement ring. Darrel then hid the box and “officially” proposed to Amber in Central Park later that afternoon. So sweet!
Amber and Darrel are getting married next fall and I cannot wait to photograph their intimate wedding at Signatures Restaurant.
The absolutely stunning engagement ring – I think it’s just beautiful and so unique.

And on the beautiful bride-to-be.

Amber and Darrel really wanted to recreate a famous moment from the Breakfast at Tiffany’s movie. It is one of the last moments of the movie where the couple finds their missing cat and kisses in the rain. While we decided to leave the rain part out, Amber and Darrel have the most adorable cat, Freddy, who was the star of this shot.

Love!

We had the session around the Museum of Nature and it served as the perfect backdrop.

Love the architecture.

We tried a little bit of “Dancing in the Rain” for the shot on the right – again, sans rain.

Dancing in the sunset – I just love these shots.

This little piece of greenery was tucked away in the parking lot and was just perfect.

Some sunset love…

…and more.

A fave.

See I told you there were mammoths! Amber and Darrel used to live in an apartment that faced these sculptures so we thought we’d include some fun ones with them in the session.

Thanks for a great session you two – I had such a blast!
Have a wonderful day,

How to Clean Your Engagement Ring
Posted on Feb 24, 2010 at 2:30 pm by Liz · No CommentsAfter I got engaged, I knew nothing about the upkeep of fancy rings. I figured that wearing my engagement ring in the shower would clean it well enough, but that is not actually the case. Things get in underneath the setting and it actually dulls the sparkle of the stone *gasp!*
A good friend of mine who knows about these sorts of things gave me some simple instructions to clean my engagement ring, and this is how I’ve been doing it since. She suggested cleaning it every 1-2 weeks, although in my forgetfulness/laziness, I usually clean it every 2-3 weeks.
What You’ll Need
- Your ring (obviously)
- A Toothbrush (mine is from Dollarama)
- A small bowl or dish
- Mr. Clean (I got the orange one because I like the way it smells)
- Tap Water
Steps to cleaning your engagement ring:
- Close the toilet lid, plug the sink and cover any air vents where the ring might go if you drop it.
- mix 1/2 Mr. Clean and 1/2 water in a little bowl/dish
- put your engagement ring in the mixture and let it sit for a few minutes
- use the toothbrush dipped in the mixture and brush the ring on all sides
- rinse with water, dry off and voila – good as new!

Wedding Resources ~ Best Blogs for Brides, Ottawa Wedding Photography
Posted on Dec 27, 2009 at 10:00 am by Liz · 2 CommentsThere are so many things for a bride to think about before the wedding and I know before I got married I wanted to look at many many websites for ideas and inspiration.
I have compiled a list of my favourites, and ones that helped me before my own wedding last summer.
The Wedding Chicks *a personal fave* ~ weddingchicks.com
I love this website – lots of really amazing ideas and always has great resources, even for Canadians! I also ordered shirts from them for my wedding; one that said Bride and the other said Maid of Honour. Too cute!
Weddingbells Blog ~ weddingbells.ca/blogs
The Weddingbells Blog (and website) is great because it’s 100% Canadian – gotta love that! Offices are based out of Toronto so if there’s something you must have that they feature, it’s only a shortish drive away. This blog/website is the companion to the Weddingbells Magazine (also a great resource).
Weddingbee ~ weddingbee.com
Weddingbee is great because it’s blog posts done by either real life brides/couples or wedding vendors. Lots of great insight and info on here and I spent hours pouring over this blog when I first found it.
The Bride’s Cafe ~ thebridescafe.com
Beautiful blog with lots of inspiration. Only downfall is there is no Canadian content on it.
Kiss the Groom ~ kissthegroom.com
Kiss the Groom is a blog told in beautiful photos. Some stunning imagery on it.
100 Layer Cake ~ 100layercake.com/blog
100 Layer Cake is a mix of DIY, real weddings, style and inspiration.
Not blogs, but very helpful
Wedding Wire ~ weddingwire.com
This was easily the most helpful website I found and used before we got married. It has everything you need to plan your day and keep it organized, and for an organization-freak like me, it was perfect! Don’t let the .com extension fool you though, this website has A TON of Canadian content and vendors and if your vendors aren’t in their system, you can add them in!
Stephanie James Couture ~ stephaniejamescouture.com
Stephanie James is a designer in the US and I just fell completely and utterly in LOVE with her dresses. If I wasn’t lucky enough to have my wonderful Mother custom make my wedding dress, I would have sought out a Stephanie James dress. I don’t believe they sell them in Ottawa, but Sash and Bustle in Toronto does.
iDiY ~ i-do-it-yourself.com/
iDiY is a great resource for the bride who wants to add some personal hand-made touches to her wedding. There are many projects and ideas on this blog, and some are not even for weddings!
If you have any wedding blogs you love – leave it in the comments!
