The Story of Their Wedding Day ~ Katie and Mathieu
Posted on Sep 14, 2010 at 12:00 pm by Liz · No CommentsOne of my absolute favourite things to do with wedding photos, is lay them out in a beautiful 12×12 or 10×10 photo book. I love it – it may come from my graphic design background, but there is nothing more fun than laying out a photo book…aside from actually shooting that is! I shoot each wedding day like a story so the book is a natural way for the photographs to be displayed.
Katie and Mathieu ordered a 12×12, 40 page Wedding Photo Book and it did not disappoint! The 12×12 is such a “go big or go home” size and it’s just beautiful. They also ordered two 8×8 copies of the book for each of their parents – how sweet and such a great idea for a gift for parents!
Books are heirloom pieces that can be passed down to future generations to remember such a beautiful wedding day. All of our photo books are professionally bound, hardcover with thick, lay-flat pages.
Have a wonderful day,

Soul-mates: two halves of the same soul
Posted on Sep 11, 2010 at 6:04 pm by Liz · 2 CommentsI’ve been trying to write this post for about two weeks now, I’m not going to lie. Jenn and Tyler are awesome, and I was trying to come up with an uber clever and wordy way of saying it, but I couldn’t come up with anything other than awesome, because that’s what they are.
Our first wedding consultation back in February lasted almost two hours. I left feeling like I didn’t just spend some time with clients, but that I spent time with friends. The same thing happened when I met with Jenn the week before the wedding and we chatted for three hours!
Jenn and Tyler had an engagement session with me which we used to create a one of a kind wedding invitation. You might remember the session I blogged here. I even got a free burger from The Works from writing that post!
Their wedding day was perfect. It was a beautiful sunny day and there was so much love in the air. When I arrived at their house to capture Jenn getting ready with her bridesmaids, she was relaxed and the three were having a light lunch with more than perfect hair. As she got dressed, I could see that Jenn was excited, underneath all that calm energy, she was excited to marry her best friend in a few hours. Tyler waited at the church, getting everyone settled and ready for the ceremony.
The ceremony was held in the Church was the Christ Church Huntley, which holds a lot of meaning to Tyler’s family – it has been their family church for many years and they are very much involved in the parish. The ceremony was beautiful and everyone could barely hold back their emotions. Everything was so beautiful and the day was perfect.
And the car…oh the car!! Jenn had a family friend who loaned them the most beautiful car I’ve ever seen. A lavender vintage cadillac. It matched the colour scheme and provided a whole other level of cool. I actually squealed out loud when I first saw it!
The reception was catered by the wonderfully talented Epicuria and cannot deny that I ate a ton and enjoyed every single bite. The food was so good that I am going to save those photos for a post all by themselves.
Jenn and Tyler are awesome, and there really isn’t any other word. Anyone who meets them can tell that they are perfect for each other and are so in love. I know that they will be happy together forever.
I cleared off their kitchen shelves for the top shot and balancing those bouquets took some patience I tell you!

The beautiful bride.

The groom before the ceremony – a bit nervous, but very excited.

Getting married!

I love the light in this shot. It really shows how warm, sunny and beautiful their wedding day was.

Love the emotion in this shot!

One word: shoes. The ladies were so great and didn’t complain once as I had them walk all over the parking lots at the Arboretum!

One of my favourite groomsmen photos ever. I love the reflection in his glasses.

There is something about this photo that I just love. I don’t know why, but I do.

Check out the car…drool…

Love.

So pretty.

A definite favourite.

The reception was filled with so much love, and laughter!

The dancing at this wedding was great. I admit I busted a move on the dance floor as well!

I accidentally got myself in Tyler’s ring while shooting some details shots. I thought it was quite funny. I call it “Self Portrait in a Ring”

Jenn and Tyler, thank you for having me photograph your wedding and spend the day with you. You are the best. xoxo.

My little 4-legged models
Posted on Aug 29, 2010 at 7:23 pm by Liz · 4 CommentsI was asked a few months ago to shoot a special project (more on that in September) and I had to include dogs. Of course I thought that the perfect models would be my little ones.
Photographing dogs is one of my favourite things in this world, but photographing MY OWN dogs is a task I tell you. They both have perfected the art of not looking at me while I am pointing the camera at them. I’ll put it down, they’ll look, and as soon as it’s up to my eye again, they are very interested in over-there or that-spot-on-the-floor. Basically anywhere but at me. It proves quite difficult – all of my sounds don’t work on them anymore. They’re even getting hip to my backup sounds.
Today Paddington was all over the place for some reason, while Corduroy was chill as usual so I decided she was my girl for this job. She was very good even though I didn’t use treats! Although it took many, many shots before I had some of her actually looking at me.
I will announce what this project is in September, but for now here is some behind the scenes info about these photos.
About a millisecond after I shot this, Corduroy jumped out of the backpack and took a flying leap to chase a squirrel. Thomas and I both held our breath as she soared through the air to the ground. Fortunately she landed on her feet and was ok. She also was able to secure the permitter from the squirrel invasion.

Didn’t pose this one, just sat in the hot hot sun and waited for her to come over.

I was playing around a bit – Corduroy wasn’t as impressed as I was…

Meanwhile, Paddington decided it would be a good idea to roll in something gross and smelly in the grass.

She LOVES rolling in smelly grossness. Icky for me, heaven for her.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to give a certain dog a bath…

Today was a great day: Katie and Mathieu got married! Here is one of my favourites that grabbed my eye tonight when I imported the photos to my computer.
Lots more on this wedding later, but for now, the classy duo that is Katie and Mathieu.

Secret Models?
Posted on Jun 9, 2010 at 3:00 pm by Liz · 8 CommentsThey told me they had never modeled before, but from these pictures, I would swear they both have had long and successful careers as models!
Kirsten, Shadi and I met for their engagement session a few weeks ago and we drove to downtown Ottawa for the shoot. I love shooting in downtown Ottawa because there are so many different places to photograph in that look so different – it makes for a very diverse session.
Kirsten and Shadi are the best kind of people, in my mind. They are fun and sarcastic while still being so geniune. The two have the most amazing bond and just emanate love for each other which I think is so wonderful.
Currently, Kirsten is living in Calgary, while Shadi is in Ottawa. I don’t know how they do it – I miss Thomas if he’s working for the evening (I know, I’m completely lame! haha). These two have such an amazing connection that even though it’s difficult, I know that they’ll pull through it. Kirsten is moving back soon and I know they are counting the days.
Then they will be counting the days until their wedding! I, for one, cannot wait to spend the day documenting their wedding and I am so honoured that they chose me to be their wedding photographer. Their wedding is in October and all three of us are excited about the photos having a completely different feel than their Spring-green engagement pictures. Everyone keep your fingers crossed for beautiful fall colours in early October this year!
Kirsten and Shadi, I hope you love your photos as much as I loved taking them. And thank you for telling me what public water fountains are really used for…. *shudders*
And without further adieu, may I present; Kirsten and Shadi in love (and also, who I am convinced are secret models).

Shadi designed Kirsten’s engagement ring which is so amazing.

Shadi had been working earlier that day, finishing up laying the pavement in this parking garage. We thought it would be fun to take a few shots down there, not only to capture their relationship, but to document his awesome pavement laying skills!

Shadi has an amazing car. Now I am by far the worlds least educated person on the subject of cars, but I know when one is smoking hot, and this car is smoking hot! Almost as smokin as the two posing with it!

Smooch!
