We gonna party like it’s my birthday!

Posted on Oct 25, 2010 at 5:16 pm by · 2 Comments

So today is my birthday. I’ve always loved birthdays growing up and today is no different. Thomas and I headed to Kingston to celebrate with my family yesterday and we celebrated with his family a few weeks ago.

This morning Thomas woke up bright and early with me to give me the perfect gift: it is a mug that looks like a Nikon lens! I’ve wanted one of these for a while so I was very excited to get it this morning.

Lens that is a mug

Which one is the lens and which one is the mug?? They are so similar!!

So far I’ve had in it: hot chocolate, tea, water and iced tea. Love it!

While I was out at an amazing store buying myself a birthday present (it’s totally allowed), Thomas hand made a card out of construction paper to look like a lens! Amazing! He made it in purple because he couldn’t find any black paper, but I still think it looks great!

Tonight we’re gonna party like it’s my birthday…which essentially translates to Thomas cooking me a delicious and fabulous dinner and watching TV all night! My kind of night! I’m thinking I’d like to watch a bit of Glee and maybe some Sanctuary and maybe even some Castle and Bones. It’s shaping up to be a wonderful night!

Festivities to begin as soon as I pick Thomas up from teaching and we vote.

Thank you to all who have wished me a happy birthday through Facebook and Twitter.

Have a wonderful day,

Resolutions: late or early?

Posted on Sep 23, 2010 at 1:30 pm by · No Comments

So if I make a resolution now, do you think it’s a very late 2010 resolution, or an early 2011 one?
Discuss amongst yourselves…

And while you’re discussing, I’ll explain what this is about. I’ve written before about how I love blogging, and I really do. I also hate writing, which seems counterintuitive, but it actually isn’t. To me, writing is hard, but blogging isn’t. Blogging is writing what I’m thinking – which means it doesn’t always make sense, but words come out and are recorded. Writing has to make sense…which is so not me. I’m quite random.

Circling back around to the resolution part of this confabulation (I totally just thesaurus.com’ed that word), I want to write more on this blog. So I thought I’d declare it to the interwebs and get it out there, so I essentially have to now.

I have been perusing through my first ever blog and I realized that I started it over 10 years ago. Man that’s sad. I didn’t realize it had been that long. It’s actually quite fun to read and I’m a bit sorry that I slacked off between years 2007-2010 and stopped blogging because I promise you, exciting and fun things happened in those times too.

So now, I will blog again. I noticed that I used to do something called “Stats” where I listed what I was watching, reading etc. I’m bringing the Stats back and updating it. It now will be called…

What’s Happening?
listening to: Shawn Desman – Night Like This
reading: Hot Shoe Diaries by Joe McNally
watching: The Office Season 2
loving: All the shows that are premiering this week! TV makes me happy.
not loving: The fact that we are out of milk and aren’t going grocery shopping until tomorrow. Boo.
twitter status: Thursday: you suck because you are not Friday

Morning Motivation

Posted on Mar 31, 2010 at 2:00 pm by · No Comments

Let me tell you a little secret: I am not a morning person. Not in the least. I hate getting up to the sound of my alarm, but I do it because it’s what we do. I’m not the worst person in the morning, I just would rather still be snoozing in my warm in bed.

Two thing that makes my mornings a lot more bearable are Paddington and Corduroy. They love waking up in the morning because it means love, cuddles, outside and breakfast (our dogs eat better than we do, more on that later). When my alarm goes off, the dogs start to stir and come close to me for some cuddling and pets…and of course, lots of kisses. Their love for the morning makes it a bit easier to get up. When I say the word “outside” they dart off the bed and whine at me to move faster.

I am so lucky to have these two little motivators to get me up out of bed in the wee hours of the morning!

What a wonderful year!

Posted on Dec 29, 2009 at 9:00 am by · 1 Comment

As we approach 2010 I wanted to take a moment to reflect on how wonderful 2009 has been to elizabeth&jane photography. I have had such a great year and I want thank each and every one of my amazing clients for allowing me to capture moments in your life.

This year has marked the official launch of elizabeth&jane photography. I say “official” because we have been photographing long before we launched the business. It was very important to me to make sure that this was something that I really loved beyond just a hobby. I spent a full year photographing for many MANY charity events. Spending time learning about the industry and figuring out where our place was within it.

We encountered so many wonderful souls this year, both four and two legged. We’ve been there to document the creation of new families, celebrations of love, laughter and so much more. We are so lucky to have such amazing clients and people in our lives who believe in what we do, and where we want to go.

I want to take a moment out to thank my wonderful, awesome, amazing husband, Thomas. He’s put up with me being away for shoots as well as editing until all hours of the night. He is the coding power behind my website and the driving force behind everything I do. I could not have realized my dream of launching this business without him, and for that I am eternally grateful.

I can’t mention Thomas, without mentioning our two little balls of love that cheer me up whenever I am feeling down. Paddington and Corduroy, our two dogs, are the light of my life and they also deserve a shoutout. Good dogs.

I would also like to thank the phenomenal Angela Hubbard and the outstanding Studio1948 for all of their help, advice and encouragement this year. elizabeth&jane photography would not be where it is today without the help of these two amazing photography studios.

And last, but certainly not least, my wonderful sister and second shooter, Jane. Thank you for always pushing me and helping me to get the very best shots.

2009 has been so wonderful, I can’t wait to see what 2010 brings!

Now, to sum up the year in pictures.

New Bags!

Posted on Nov 21, 2009 at 4:40 pm by · 2 Comments

I did a lot of research before upgrading my bags. After all of my searching, I settled on a Medium Jill-E Bag to store all of my gear while not in use and while in transport, and a Shootsac (with a Fling cover) to hold my lenses while on a shoot. I am more than THRILLED with both bags.

Also pictured is a bag I use all the time for dog shoots – it is a Travel Pooch by Lululemon.
