Puppy Love ~ Barb and Chris’ Engagement Sneak Peek
Posted on May 19, 2012 at 9:00 am by Liz · No CommentsBefore I even met Barbara I knew that I’d love her. Barbara’s mother was helping with the search for a photographer for Barb and Chris’ September 2011 wedding and the inquiry started out something along the lines of “My daughter also love dogs and shoes!” and I knew I had to meet her!
Sure enough, Barb is wonderful and so his her awesome fiancé, Chris, as well as their super adorable fur-kids, Ava and Lily.
When we were talking about their engagement session I asked them if there was somewhere special they wanted to have the session and Barb knew right away a place that would be perfect. We had the session in the woods around her parents’ house in the small town of Carp, Ontario – where she grew up, and where they still walk their dogs today while visiting.
As we walked into the woods yesterday, Barb mentioned that she had a few places in mind for us to shoot in and sure enough, they had also thought enough ahead to bring a ladder into the forest to climb one of the trees!
Their dogs were so excited to run and play through the woods, even though Ava, their 3 year old white boxer, had just had surgery to remove a porcupine quill and wasn’t supposed to be playing around with Lily, their 10 month old Cane Corso Mastiff. Of course this meant we had to separate them every 5 minutes but they had a blast, including racing through the muck and mud…repeatedly.
Thank you Barb and Chris for climbing trees, getting eaten alive by mosquitoes and for loving the idea of having the session for your dogs just as much as for you.

Family.

Ava, who is such a sweetheart and jumps like a deer.

Lily, the gentle giant who follows her big dog-sister around everywhere.

This may be one of my favourite images ever. This wasn’t set up at all, I was photographing Barb and Chris and saw this little face peering out at me through their legs. So cute!!

By the lake.

Can you spot Ava?

Barb’s ring is a family heirloom. It was Chris’ grandmother’s ring and both of them feel so special to have such a beautiful history in their engagement ring.

And this is what dogs look like after a session with me. Sleepy sleepy. Ava could barely keep here eyes open!

A Windy Wedding
Posted on Oct 5, 2010 at 4:26 pm by Liz · 3 CommentsGlenda and Drew were married on one of the windiest days of the summer. The forecast was calling for rain, but aside from a few drops in the morning, it was a beautiful, albeit windy, day! I have to give Glenda kudos for lasting as long as she did in her veil as it blew around all over!
Glenda and Drew’s wedding colours were simple, green and white, and it was beautifully accented with green shoes and bridesmaids dresses.
Not only did the bride look beautiful and the groom look quite handsome, their flower girl and ring bearer almost stole the limelight. Both were adorably cute and the ring bearer even caught the garter and busted quite the break dancing moves on the dance floor!
We headed to the grounds of the Museum of Science and Technology for the photos and Glenda and Drew looked great among the big trains and tracks.
Congratulations guys!

The puppies waiting to come inside and join in on the fun!

Bitbit testing the “twirlyness” of her flower girl dress.

Here is the evidence of the ring bearer bustin a move on the dance floor – and he was really good!

Beauty in Your Own Backyard
Posted on Aug 9, 2010 at 9:30 pm by Liz · 8 CommentsI am sure Sarah and Ben had walked through this field a hundred times without thinking about how perfect it was for a portrait session, but as soon as I drove past it on the way to their house, I fell in love. We were scheduled to go to one of my favourite graffiti walls, but we just had to photograph here first. It was perfect and beautiful…and home to the biggest spider I’ve ever seen!! eek. I decided not to document that part of our shoot.
Sarah and Ben have the most adventurous cat I’ve ever met. Her name is Jupiter and she loves being outside. Also in their family is Percy, a lab mix they rescued from a shelter in Kingston a few years ago. She is sweet and probably the best behaved dogs I’ve ever met. I love it when couples or families decide to include their pets in their portrait sessions!
We shot a few with the furkids, then ventured out on our own for some fun couples portraits. Sarah and Ben have been married for over three years now and are still as in love as the day they got married.
Sarah and Ben are also cool because we share a love for Sushi and they recently introduced me to an amazing Sushi Restaurant in Ottawa called Genji. If you love sushi, definitely check them out!
And without further adieu, may I present: Sarah, Ben, Percy and Jupiter.

In dreams and in love there are no impossibilities
Posted on Jul 18, 2010 at 2:15 pm by Liz · 7 CommentsI still remember the day that Katie told me that Mathieu had proposed. I was recently engaged myself and she and I had been talking about how she and Matt were thinking about getting married. She came to see me and didn’t even need to tell me – I immediately spotted her infectious grin and her beautiful engagement ring.
I’ve known Katie for about three years now and funnily enough our lives paralleled in some pretty big milestones throughout the time we’ve known each other. We both bought our first homes within weeks of each other and we also got engaged around the same time as well. When Katie purchased her first home, she was single and loving it. Purchasing that home forever changed her life. Living next door was a strapping young man who would come over and help her fix things around the house. He would find any excuse to come over and see her. If you haven’t guessed it by now, this was Mathieu. Eventually he would move out of his house and move next door in with Katie and on June 19th, 2010, they stood in front of each other and promised to love one another forever.
Katie and Matt’s wedding was beautiful. It was one of the hottest days in June and it thunderstormed ALL morning. Nothing could get Katie’s spirits down though and she really did have nothing to worry about because by the time we came to take photos outside, it had completely cleared up. They got the best of both worlds; rain for luck, and sunny for their photos!
These two have such love for each other and it is so evident to everyone who knows them. They recently bought a farm and their honeymoon was spent installing electric fences and lots and LOTS of planting. Both are very in tune with the environment and you can see that even in their wedding colours: green!
Thank you Katie and Mathieu for letting me photograph your love, and your day. I hope you love your photos as much as I do!

My peace of mind was courtesy of my awesome bridesmaids & my mom, Day of event co-ordinator, Linda, and the blog apracticalwedding.com where I’ve been reading for over a year about how I should let all the details go on the day of the wedding and just be in the moment. Apparently it worked!
