It can be a bit of a tough task to find jewellery for your wedding. The prices can range anywhere from really cheap to really not cheap (if you know what I mean). Sometimes it’s hard to even figure out where to start.

I had fallen in love with Etsy long before we got engaged and often found myself on there looking for everything from dog sweaters to hand crocheted hats. I’m not going to lie, I have wasted hours and hours looking on it! The wonderful thing about Etsy is it is a storefront for hand made things which means you get to support an artist and deal with them one on one. It’s just awesome. And because of the nature of Etsy, you quite often can get custom made items very quickly and easily.

For my wedding, I came across an amazing seller located in Australia named LuLu Splendor. She hand-makes beautiful jewellery using Swarovski crystal and I fell in love with it instantly. The prices for her pieces are very reasonable and I was thrilled with my purchases. They came quickly (for coming from Australia!) and were in really cute tin boxes. I bought a necklace, earrings, headband for me and a hair clip for my maid of honour.

I eventually ended up getting a friend to convert the headband into a hair comb before the wedding, but that was completely my fault. This could have been done by the seller, but I didn’t realize until after I had received the headband that me + headbands = massive headache (100% bride fail there). This was not something I really wanted on my wedding day. Also, I ended up not wearing the necklace at the wedding as my wedding party advised me that it was a bit too much.

The great thing about the pieces I bought is I have been able to wear each of them again at some point. They are so beautiful that they are just such a great way to dress up an outfit. I get compliments on them all the time! Mind you, I don’t wear them all together anymore.

The fun thing is that even though she is all the way from Australia, I have seen many brides in Ottawa wearing her pieces!

Planning your wedding can be a daunting task. I’ve written before about how I used Wedding Wire’s tools to plan and found them great. There are many options, but one in particular I just had to share because it’s so neat.

Google is helping couples plan their wedding by creating free templates for use with Google Docs. I use Google Docs all the time to store information that I need to access from anywhere – blog post ideas, the code for my blog post footers, even shopping lists sometimes! There are so many facets to Google Docs that I know I haven’t even scratched the surface on it.

Google created a video to illustrate how easy it can be and there are many, many templates online to do pretty much anything you need to do for your wedding.

If you already have a Gmail account, then you automatically have access to Google Docs. If you don’t, it’s easy and free to sign up.

After I got engaged, I knew nothing about the upkeep of fancy rings. I figured that wearing my engagement ring in the shower would clean it well enough, but that is not actually the case. Things get in underneath the setting and it actually dulls the sparkle of the stone *gasp!*

A good friend of mine who knows about these sorts of things gave me some simple instructions to clean my engagement ring, and this is how I’ve been doing it since. She suggested cleaning it every 1-2 weeks, although in my forgetfulness/laziness, I usually clean it every 2-3 weeks.

What You’ll Need

• Your ring (obviously)
• A Toothbrush (mine is from Dollarama)
• A small bowl or dish
• Mr. Clean (I got the orange one because I like the way it smells)
• Tap Water

Steps to cleaning your engagement ring:

1. Close the toilet lid, plug the sink and cover any air vents where the ring might go if you drop it.
2. mix 1/2 Mr. Clean and 1/2 water in a little bowl/dish
3. put your engagement ring in the mixture and let it sit for a few minutes
4. use the toothbrush dipped in the mixture and brush the ring on all sides
5. rinse with water, dry off and voila – good as new!
